Clinical Summary

A 56-year-old New York State police officer was found comatose in his patrol car in a remote area. He was admitted to a regional hospital but died in 3 days from acute renal failure. A forensic pathologist sent the brain for diagnosis.

Reveal Diagnosis

Cerebral oxalosis due to suicidal ingestion of ethylene glycol antifreeze.

New treatments are emerging but I will make no specific recommendations.
