The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University, London Health Sciences Centre, and St. Joseph’s Health Care London, is seeking to fill one (1) neuropathologist position in a full-time clinical academic appointment.

Position Profile: Full-time Limited-Term Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, depending upon experience and qualifications at the time of appointment. This recruitment is intended to fill a full-time neuropathologist position following retirement.

Academic and Clinical Expectations: The successful candidate must be interested in pursuing an academic career and will be expected to participate in the Division’s academic, research and education initiatives including teaching and supervision of undergraduate students, postgraduate trainees and fellows. Academic activities will be tailored to the candidate’s career goals. Clinical expectations will include participation in all aspects of the surgical and autopsy neuropathology service. Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance in teaching, research and health care leadership, where applicable, as well as qualifications and experience. Candidates that have demonstrated ability in the identified areas of opportunity will be given priority, as will candidates that have demonstrated past or potential excellence in teaching and scholarly activity. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to be an exemplary team player are considered essential.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent degree and be eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and must have certification in Neuropathology.

Compensation: Compensation for this position will be primarily composed of hospital funding aligned with the Ontario MOH Laboratory Medicine Funding Framework Agreement. Positions are subject to budget approval.

The Department: The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine fulfills the academic mandate of London Health Sciences Centre as a research-intensive acute care tertiary and quaternary teaching hospital. The Division of Pathology has an annual workload of approximately 65,000 surgical specimens, 15,000 cytology specimens and 1,000 autopsies serviced by 35 anatomical pathologists and 3 neuropathologists. With a strong history of collegiality and a record of excellence in many areas of diagnostic service, teaching and research, it represents an environment conducive to career and personal development. The neuropathology team receives approximately 1200 surgical, 300 intraoperative and 200 autopsy consultations per year (adult and pediatric). The Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences (with whom neuropathologists and neuroradiologists are cross-appointed) attracts a patient referral base of approximately 3.5 million.

Academic Neuropathologist
Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program and McMaster University

Applications are invited for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Neuropathologist position in the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP). This is an academic appointment in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at McMaster University and academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will have completed a minimum of 5 years of residency training in Neuropathology (direct entry), or 2 years of Neuropathology training following Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology/Anatomical Pathology residency (pathway 2). Strong frozen section and surgical pathology skills (including related molecular/biomarker testing) are required.

Applicants must hold certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent in Neuropathology, and hold or be eligible to obtain medical licensure in the Province of Ontario.

The successful candidate will hold an academic appointment and they will be expected to regularly participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as needed by the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine. A commitment to academic scholarship in the areas of education, quality improvement, knowledge translation, innovation, and/or clinical/translational research is essential.

Locum Opportunities in Neuropathology – Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP)

The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) is seeking part-time, casual locum pathologists to provide coverage for an unexpected vacancy in Neuropathology (adult and pediatric). These positions offer flexibility, with on-site work preferred but not required.

We are a subspecialized, multi-site academic hospital program serving Hamilton and the surrounding region—home to over two million people. Our program spans four acute care hospitals and one community hospital, operating under Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. The Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, one of our sites, is a regional referral centre for Central-West Ontario.

Qualifications:

  • Certification in Neuropathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent).
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Ontario.
